Do I need a doctor's referral?
You will require a doctor's referral if you have an active ICBC or WCB claim,
for DVA coverage or if required by your extended health plan.
What will happen on my first visit?
You will be asked to come a few minutes early to fill out a health history form. When that is completed, the therapist will take you to a treatment room and go over your health history with you and ask any further questions that will assist in providing you with the best treatment for your condition.
The therapist may also complete appropriate muscle and orthopedic tests as part of your assessment. When that is completed and you and your therapist have discussed the most beneficial plan for you, the therapist will leave the room while you prepare for your massage treatment. Your therapist will give you direction about this before leaving the room. You may be asked to dress down to your underwear, or, if necessary, to undress completely. You will be fully covered by a sheet during your session, with only the area being treated being uncovered.
Your comfort is our most important concern. The therapist will knock and return to the room, check to make sure you have good pillow support and offer you a blanket and perhaps suggest the use of a heating pad or cold pack. During treatment, you may want to talk or remain quiet - the choice is yours. It is important to let your therapist know if at any time they are using too much pressure or not enough. Communication is the key to receiving the most benefit from your massage treatment.
At the conclusion of your session, the therapist will leave the room and then it is time for you to get dressed. It is best to get up from the table slowly and mindfully, allowing your body to return to a more active state in an easy way. This is a good moment to notice the changes the treatment has made for you. When you are dressed, you can open the door to let your therapist know you are ready. You and your therapist will discuss your treatment plan and you may receive instructions for a homecare program that will provide you with further benefit and comfort. And that's the end of the session.
You will return to the front desk and will receive a receipt for your payment. This receipt will have all the information you will need to submit it to your insurer.
And remember to help yourself to a drink of water before you go! |

Does the BC Medical Services Plan still cover part of my treatment?
MSP will cover a portion of your treatment if you are on Premium Assistance. If you have Premium Assistance, MSP will cover a portion of the cost of 10 visits per calendar year.
These visits are combined with visits to a chiropractor, physiotherapist, naturopath and podiatrist. We will need your carecard number on your first visit to confirm your coverage.
